Parked Mode

We've discovered that we like to park two nights in the same spot every five days or so to give us a chance to catch up with ourselves.  This time we are camped for three nights in Nampa, Idaho.

We arrived here late Saturday afternoon and moved into Garrity RV Park which is our first park offering an Escapees discount.  One of the first things we did was vacuum the RV with the baby 12 volt wet/dry vacuum I bought earlier in the day at a Flying J truck stop.  It worked amazingly well!  Then we figured out how to pack and stow it in our basement.

Sunday we dropped off prescriptions to be refilled at the local Target pharmacy.  It's turning out to be  a challenge to find ones with pharmacies.  Dave needed to take one of my Maxide Monday morning since we didn't think it kind to ask them to refill six prescriptions in a couple of hours with only one guy on duty.

Then we went to REI, the first one we've found since leaving Minnesota, and stocked up on freeze-dried food.  This is what we eat in camp in the evenings.  They are light weight to store and generally require only boiling water to make yet are amazingly tasty.  We find that one entree and one desert satisfies us very well.  Tonight we are having chicken and rice with chocolate cheesecake for desert.

Then we went to Cabela's to see if they have freeze-dried foods for those occasions when they are closer than REI.  They do but they don't have nearly as good a selection.  We did, however, find two deserts we'd not seen before.  We also bought a couple of "heater meals" to try.  They cook by adding a packet of salt water to a bag you put the meal into.  It set off our carbon monoxide alarm!  We'll make sure to have better ventilation when we make the rest of them but we won't buy any more as they are not worth the weight of them.

We also went to Subway while we were out since it's always nice to have fresh vegetables on our sandwiches but we don't have room to properly store many of them.

Monday morning we did laundry then went to iHOP for lunch so Dave could have a waffle.  Dave likes waffles so much his mother gave him a waffle iron for his 3rd birthday so he loves finding places where he can get a good waffle.  Then we picked up the prescriptions we dropped off at Target the day before.

Every time we leave our campsite we put out our placeholder.  Otherwise anyone could come in and park in our site while we are gone since this is a park-yourself-park when the office is closed.  That happened to us once before we found this collapsible cone to put out when we leave.  I used a Sharpie to write on it "They'll be back" and "Don't take me" and "Property of the Sandcastle."  So far, it has stayed put but this is the only park where we have used it since we bought it.  Since RVers are known to be good people unless they've had too many beers, I feel fairly confident that it will be around for awhile.  I like the way it folds down to just the height of the base so it can store in the driver's door pocket.

In between housekeeping tasks we've been trying to catch up on our computer stuff.  We are behind on our various communications forums.  Plus, a friend pointed out a problem with this blog when a picture falls at the point where the story says "more" for which we haven't yet been able to find a solution.

Tomorrow morning we will take the Sprinter to Peterson's Stampede here in Nampa to see if they can replace the apparently defective steering gear that's causing us to slowly loose power steering fluid.

Then we finally head out again--this time to a family reunion in White Bird, Idaho, where Dave's brother has been building his version of a Sand Castle.  He was still in the framing stage the last time we saw it so we are looking forward to seeing the finished version and to visiting with both his brothers and his sister and their spouses.

TTYL,
Linda

I like the descriptions of the little things needed to keep life going. I find those more interesting that the blogs that focus only on the big activities.
