Driving through Indiana
We spent all day Saturday driving though Indiana. OK, half of Saturday since we didn't actually leave the Flying J until noon; they have a good breakfast buffet. It was still raining. It, obviously, had been raining here a lot lately. There were ducks on the ball diamonds. And when we tried to turn into Home Depot to buy tape to fix the window shade, the driveways were flooded so we, and some other people, decided not even to try it. The WalMart parking lot was OK, though, so we got groceries and tape there.
Well, we got most of the groceries. I am allergic to milk. I use non-dairy creamer on my cereal in the morning. I like two brands: Mocha Mix and Coffee Rich. Lately we haven't been able to buy either one. So, Dave went in and out of groceries stores all along our route trying to buy one or the other. We ended up with Lactaid milk which I don't like and which is still milk. But the ingredients in it at least help prevent the stomach upsets of my lactose intolerance even if it doesn't prevent the headaches of my allergy. I plan to eat eggs some this week instead of cereal to help with that. I really like my cereal, though. I eat a cup of Cheerios with 1/2 cup blueberries and 1/2 cup strawberries and a splash of non dairy creamer. It is healthful food that feels decadent.
Buying groceries for a week takes planning we are not used to doing but we are headed to the Gypsy Gathering and would rather not have to make a trip into town mid-week so we bought a few things at each of several grocery stores as we remembered other things we should get while Dave was trying to buy my non-dairy creamer.
We passed a church with signs out front saying "New Pastor" and "Fresh Approach." That made me wonder what on Earth the old pastor got up to.
US Hwy 30 heading east to Fort Wayne was a bumpy road. Every possible squeak and chirp in our RV got it's chance to be heard. We never did figure out what caused some of them.
We planned pick up US Hwy 33 at the west edge of Fort Wayne and take it right through downtown. Except it didn't go there. It followed a ring road around the south side of town. I guess that was OK.
Once through town, we stopped to check email to see if there were instructions we needed before arrival at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Celina, Ohio, where the Gypsy Gathering is to take place. The place we stopped had a Krispy Kreme shop. We didn't buy any. I would be proud of us if it wasn't just plain inertia that kept us from going into the shop.
We would be arriving early at the fairgrounds because we were racing Hurricane Ike. I know, it's not really a hurricane once it gets inland but the rains and winds from it were due here Sunday when we were supposed to be arriving and we've had enough driving in wind and rain to last us quite awhile so we decided to go in early. That meant we might have had to camp at WalMart Saturday night. But, we pulled into the fairgrounds just before dark and were warmly welcomed and told to pick any parking place. We moved to a better parking place today just before the winds hit so we will be here for the duration of this event.
That means I may not post much this week because the days will be long and full and I expect to fall into bed at the end of them only to get up early the next morning and start again.
