Driving Day
We got another late start this morning. OK it was afternoon by the time we left Celina. Mornings have become quite the challenge since we now sleep on different levels. We went to bed abut 10 last night so I got my nine hours of sleep and woke up about 7 this morning. But, Dave was still asleep. Since he's had several bad nights recently and he'd be doing several hours of driving today, I didn't want to wake him. So I rolled over and went back to sleep. Twice. Finally, about 9:30, Dave got up. During breakfast we talked about that and he said, in the future, I should go ahead and get up if I wake up early. He should do the same. That way we aren't both waiting for the other. Since we both tend to do computer stuff in the morning, with the sound turned off, we wouldn't likely disturb each others sleep if one of us really needs more. All afternoon we were in a mixed Linda mode and driving mode. We drove the two lane highways but didn't stop at any sites Lunch was the only stop we made.
Except for flaggers. I remember when we had to take our vacations when our daughter was out of school for the summer and I wished they would do road construction in the Spring and Fall so we wouldn't have to slow down for them. Guess what? It's Fall. The kids are in school. Contractors are doing road construction. And we are out here being delayed. I keep telling myself we don't have any deadlines. Which is true. Except I told Dad & Jean we would be there next Tuesday and I hate keeping them in limbo as to whether or not that's the right day.
So, tonight we are in the NW corner of Indiana and tomorrow morning we head into Chicago then we head south towards Decatur, Illinois. We figure that will take us the better part of a week. I can imagine the astonished looks on your faces. It's only 180 miles from Chicago to Decatur. Why on earth would that take more than a day?
Because we plan to take Old Route 66. And there are lots of places to see along that route. Thirty-six of them on my list. Some of them are drive-bys but some of them could easily take a half a day. If we do well, we should be able to do it all in six days. But you know by now how well we stick to our plans. If I actually do get up about 7 every day, and we don't take off any days, it will take six days. Which of you is going to start a pool on when we'll actually get to Decatur?
TTYL,
Linda
