End of Detour

We spent three nights at Dad and Jean's. When we went there we didn't plan to stay that long but we had such a good time it was hard to leave. While there we talked about a lot of things including sharing, and correcting each other's, memories.

And we played games.  Dave and Jean don't much care to play games but they joined us in playing Mexican Train.  Then Dad taught me to play Sequence then Trumpet. Of course, he won all three of them.

And we ate. For lunch we had sandwiches and we ate their lunch meat and they ate ours so it felt like treats to all of us. For supper, Dad made meatloaf one night and a pork roast the other while we took them out to eat for the remaining one so, again, we all felt like we'd had treats. That's the best type of sharing food.

And we worked. We did the monthly maintenance on our RV and cleaned house and did laundry. That wasn't as much fun but it feels good to have it done.

My step-mother is a wonderful lady I've known my whole life but she can be sneaky. She knew we were planning to leave this morning so she baked an apple pie. When we went in to the house to say good-by, she said we needed to stay and have some pie; it would be ready in about 15 minutes. Well, it came out of the oven in 15 minutes but then it had to cool a half hour. And then we talked while we ate it. And talked some more when we finished. It was nearly 12:45 p.m. by the time we left.

Here's Dad and Jean saying good-by.

We only drove as far as Litchfiled, Illinois, this afternoon and we only made one official Route 66 stop.  We ate lunch at the Ariston Cafe which was established in 1924.  I highly recommend this place for friendly folks and fabulous food.

Then we went to WalMart and stocked up on supplies.

Then we checked into the Kamper Kompanion campground. This is a very nice campground with level sites and shaded picnic tables and Dave says they have the best showers we've had anywhere. I'll get my chance at them in the morning.

Now that we've spent all evening catching up on our computer stuff and nearly using up all our printer's ink printing maps of our next batch of planned stops I think we are ready to resume our trip.

TTYL,
Linda
